David Robison (Robison has no ‘n’ in the middle) lives in Shipley, West Yorkshire, with his two daughters and two rabbits. He helps run a charity that uses cycling as a means of engaging with the challenges people face in Bradford.
He has been writing poetry, fiction, prose and sometimes songs for most of his life. He finds himself particularly prolific in response to challenges and the particularly intense moments life throws his way.
“It’s both a means to come to terms with grief and do something other than let events passively wash over me. I might think, something was an awful experience, but look! Now I’ve got this poem to show for it. It’s very affirming for me if anybody else happens to find something in what I’ve written.”
Particular concerns are love, the environment and power.
“We are living in challenging times: the climate crisis as well as a deeply unequal and divided world with wealth concentrated in the hands of far too few. I’m interested in how these things intersect in individuals, one of these troublesome specks being me.”
He has written many poems, a number of short stories and even a novel, although it is as yet unpublished, he’d be open to sending you a few chapters if you ask him! Formerly an academic at The University of Bradford, he also has a number of academic papers which he’d probably disown if pressed.
“I’d really like to see some of my creative work in print and am also wanting to get involved in live readings much more over the next stages of my life. I’m really keen to hear from you if you have any feedback or ideas, e.g. for where I could publish, polish or perform any of my work.”
